2 Months

I can't believe our sweet Camden is already 2 months old. Well, he turned two months old on the 12th, so I am a few days late. On his two month birthday, Camden had his two month check up at the doctor. I was dreading this appointment because I knew it meant he would be getting his first round of shots. I had been warned by quite a few people that I should expect him to be a little extra fussy and for him to sleep a lot. He did great getting his shots and calmed down pretty soon after he got all THREE shots....:(. He slept from when we got in the car at about 2, until 6 that night. He was worn out! As soon as he woke up, we were in for it. Poor thing would not let us put him down, he cried and screamed and cried and screamed for a good hour after he woke up and it just broke out hearts. We could tell that he was really sore and just not feeling well. That night he woke up almost every hour! He also lost his appetite and is just now starting to get it back. So glad he is feeling better and is back to normal! I never posted his first month picture, so here is both!

He got a great report from the doctor! He weighs 12 lbs. 8oz. and was 23 1/4 inches long! He was in the 50th percentile for both height and length.  He is really starting to interact with us and is cooing and smiling more and more everyday. We have loved every second with him and feel so blessed to have such a happy, healthy baby!!

Weekends

The past two weekends have been quite eventful! Two weekends ago was Labor day weekend. I love long weekends, especially since Jordan got a day off, which means more time to play with us! Labor day weekend we packed up Camden for our first of many trips down to the coast house. It is only 45 minutes away, but I wasn't sure how that car ride was going to go. Camden is kind of hit or miss in the car seat, but he went right to sleep when we got in the car and didn't wake up until we got there!! Jordan and my dad went down Friday night to get up early and go fishing Saturday morning. When me and mom got there, the boys were getting off the boat and had lots of surprises for us!
Jordan caught this 36lb. King Mackerel
The boys and all the fish they caught

Dad recently bought a new boat, that he calls his "T-daddy" boat. "T-daddy" is what Camden is going to call him. He thought that he needed a boat that we could easily put Camden on and go fishing.... so one day he came home with this....

Sunday afternoon, Mom brought grandma down and we all went on our first boat ride in the new boat. Camden had to stay at the house with Birdie ( my mom) , since he has to be 20lbs to go on the boat.

Berkley even go to go on her first ride on the boat!

This past weekend, one of my best friends, Morgan drove all the way down from Birmingham to spend the weekend with us and meet Camden. We loved having her here and it meant so much to us for her to come!  We got to go out on the boat again Saturday and play with her Sunday morning! We already miss you!

Camden Thomas Cowart

He is here!! Ok, so this blog post is about 6 weeks late... but better late than never, right? Here it is.. Our sweet baby boy's birth story!!

On July 11th I had my 38 week check up. I met Jordan at the doctor at about 4:00 and thought it was just going to be a normal quick check-up. We knew we were going to get an ultra sound just to check and make sure he was head down and to get an estimate on size. The ultrasound tech told us that she thought he was about 7.5 pounds. Right before we left she said  "I am just going to let y'all know that your fluid is very low and you might go into triage tonight, but I am really not supposed to say anything so just wait until you see Dr. McAlpine.... HUH? What? What is the world did that mean? So, of course, I secretly started freaking out... Jordan was calm, cool and collected and tried to reassure me that everything was going to be ok. So next we went to take weight, blood pressure, etc. Well, I normally have really good blood pressure but at each appointment it had started to get higher and higher...well this was no exception and it was quite high. Next we saw Dr. McAlpine and the first thing he said was ok, so we might have a baby here in the next few days.... HUH? I still had 2 weeks... my bag wasn't packed, car seat wasn't in, I WAS.NOT ready for this.... He gave us the option to wait and come back the next day to check my fluids to see how they were (but he really didn't think anything would change), or he said that we needed to go in and start to induce labor... He told us if it were him he would go ahead and go in and get things started. I thought for sure we would be able to go home, get some dinner, pack up and THEN head to Triage. NOPE. He told me I needed to go ahead and go in right then and once I got settled then Jordan could go home and get all of our things! So, off we went up to labor and delivery!

By 6 o'clock I was checked in and settled in a birthing room. In two hours, I had gone from not thinking he was coming for AT LEAST two more weeks to all hooked up to monitors and starting the induction process!! Dr. Brickler (the Dr. who was on call) decided to give me cervadill to start contractions. This would be inserted and stay in for 12 hours. Once the 12 hours were up, we would check my status  and go from there. As soon as they inserted it, I started immediately feeling some cramps and getting uncomfortable.  After about 2 hours the pain started going away, but I was still having pretty regular contractions, but they weren't hurting too bad. The nurse said I needed to try my best to get some sleep and relax. HA yeah right! That night mom and Jordan both spent the night with me. I did not get ONE wink of sleep. I was SO anxious and nervous!

The next morning, Dr. Brickler came back in and  checked me, I was 3 cm dilated... so I had made some progress, but not much! He went ahead and broke my water... but forgot to ask if I had already had/wanted an epidural... the minute after he broke my water I IMMEDIATELY started to have intense contractions. I thought I had a high pain tolerance, but OH MY... worst pain of my life!! While Dr. Brickler was breaking my water he mentioned that my pelvis was very "flat" and that could present some problems.... but I didn't think much of it.  I asked for an epidural almost immediately after he broke my water... and thank goodness I did. The anesthesiologist came in about 30 minutes later, but it felt like 3 hours. I was in SO much pain, contractions were coming about 1-2 minutes apart at this point. Once I got the epidural I was a NEW woman! About an hour later Dr. McAlpine came in to check on me and I was still at only 3 cm. He said that he thought it was in my best interest to go ahead and plan on a c-section since I wasn't progressing and Camden was still high up. I was never planning on having a c-section, but since he felt it was best, then that's what I was going to do! At this point it was about 12:00 and he said there were about 5 c-sections ahead of me, so it would be about 6 or 7 that night, so just to relax and try and get some rest. Well, next thing I know the nurse comes in and says that there was a change of plans and that I was NEXT!! They started prepping me and Jordan for surgery and the next thing I know, I was being rolled into the OR!

 Getting my epidural!!

About to go to the OR!

Jordan wasn't able to go in with me right away, but he met me in there right before they started.  I was shaking so hard, I was so nervous, scared, anxious and so excited to meet the sweet boy I had been praying for my whole life... this was it... I was about to become a mommy and Jordan a daddy! It was so surreal. The second I heard him cry, I became SO emotional. I couldn't believe that he was actually here. Jordan got to cut the cord and as soon as the nurses checked him out, I got to hold him, but only for a few minutes.

And just like that, my whole life changed. Camden Thomas was born at 2:08 in the afternoon and weight 6 lbs. 5 oz. He was 20 inches long and perfect! Right after we he was born he went to the recovery room to get his bath. Jordan was able to go with him, but I was still in the OR getting sewn up. I got to meet them both down there about 30 minutes later where I got to hold him for the next hour and half while I was in recovery. After we were all clear in recovery we FINALLY go up to our new room in family care and meet all of the new grandparents and aunts and uncles and rest of the family! They were DYING to meet him!!

We stayed in the hospital until Sunday afternoon, and boy was I glad to get out of there! We were SO excited to be able to go home!

First car trip!

July 12th was the best day of our life. We have been so blessed and are so lucky to have such a happy, healthy baby. Thank you to all of our family and friends who were there, sent flowers, meals and calls and texts! It meant the world to us to have so much love and support during such a special time!
